Debt Management / Financial Literacy

The School of Medicine Financial Aid Office establishes a series of in-person debt management and financial literacy sessions each year. This series of sessions is conceived not only to assist you, medical students, with the management of your educational debt but also with teaching the elements of personal finance.

We understand that most of you are anxious about financing your medical education and the debt that results. We hope that these sessions will help you alleviate this anxiety and reinforce the benefits of obtaining an M.D. degree. Some sessions have been designed to assist you with the transition both to and from medical school.

Sessions are presented by either the SOM financial aid office staff and/or by experts in the field.

Some workshops are given at the UCI campus while others are given at the Medical Center. The following is a list of topics for past in-person workshops. The list of topics for 2012-2013 will be published in September.

  • Budgeting and Financial Planning
  • Saving vs. Overspending
  • Understanding Credit
  • Protecting your Credit and your Identity
